Early Voting

The following states offer some form of early voting.

Early Voting: The voter completes the ballot in person at a county office or other designated polling site or ballot drop site prior to election day. (Also called in-person or on-site absentee voting.)

Location and Duration of Early Voting

Alabama

Courthouse: 8 am-5 pm Saturday 10 days before the election; and 8 am-5 pm on the Tuesday before the election

Alaska

Election supervisor offices: 15 days before the election through the day of the election

Arizona

The county recorder may establish on-site early voting locations at the recorder's office or any other locations in the county the recorder deems necessary; shall be accepted at any polling place while polls are open

Arkansas

Office of the county clerk: 15 days prior to election, ending on day before election, during regular hours of the county clerk

California

Office of elections, officials or satellite locations: Not later than 14 days prior to voting at the satellite locations

Colorado

Established by county clerk and recorder: During regular business hours for 10 days before the presidential primary election, the primary election, and a special legislative election, and for 15 days before any general election or other November election conducted by the county clerk and recorder

Florida

Main or branch office of the supervisor of elections: at the office of the supervisor of elections

Georgia

County office as designated: at least 45 days prior to election, to day prior to election

Hawaii

Absentee polling places shall be established at the office of the county clerks or as otherwise designated: 10 working days before election and all Saturdays within that time period

Iowa

Commissioner's office or at a place designated by Commissioner or petitioned for: 40 days before election

Kansas

Office of the county election officer and by mail: during the times established by the election officer, up to 20 days before election 

Louisiana

Office of the Registrar: 12 days to 6 days prior to any scheduled election, M-F 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Sat. 8:30 am-noon

Maine

Clerk's office: three months up to election day; voter's vote a blank ballot

Massachusetts

In the presence of the registrar, assistant registrar, or clerk: time is unspecified in statute

Michigan

Clerk's office: before 4 pm on day preceding the election

Montana

As soon as the official ballots are available, the election administrator shall permit an elector to mark the ballot before election day before the election administrator 

Nebraska

Office of the election commissioner or county clerk: day that absentee ballots are available to election day

Nevada

County clerk's office: M-F 8 am-6 pm, Sat. 10 am-6 pm, begins 3rd Saturday preceding a primary or general election and extends through Friday before election day

New Mexico

County clerk's office or alternative location: 8 am on the 40th day preceding election up until 5 pm on the Saturday immediately prior to the date of election

North Carolina

Office of the county board of elections or other designated site: Not earlier than the first business day after the 25th day before an election to 5:00 pm on Friday prior to election. Note: The only type of absentee voting that is not subject to excuse requirements is one-stop voting for elections held on the day of the general elections in November of even-numbered years.

North Dakota

Auditor's office: Ballots available 40 days before election up to day before election day during normal business hours

Oklahoma

Location designated by the secretary of the county election board: 9 am to 5 pm on Thurs., Fri., and Mon. immediately preceding any election

Oregon

Oregon elections are all conducted by mail-in ballot

Tennessee

County election commission office: during posted hours not more than 20 days nor less than five days before the day of the election

Texas

Main early voting polling place: regular business hours of the county clerk, beginning on the 17th day before election day and continues through the fourth day before election day

Utah

Office of the election officer: ballot must be cast no later than day before election

Vermont

Office of the town clerk: time not specified in statute

Virginia

Office of the general registrar: not less than three days prior to election

West Virginia

Office of the clerk of the circuit court: beginning on the 15th day before the election and continuing through the Saturday before the election for any election held on a Tuesday or continuing through the third day before the election for any election held on another day
